FAQs

Your roof maintenance questions, answered

  • Regular, professional maintenance is by far the most effective way to prevent leaks. Our inspections cover everything from clearing gutters and replacing damaged tiles to checking the flashing around chimneys and vents, so small problems get caught long before they turn into costly repairs.

  • We'd recommend a professional inspection at least once a year, ideally in spring or autumn, so any small issues are caught early. It's also worth having your roof checked after severe storms or heavy snowfall, when damage is most likely to occur.

  • Keep an eye out for cracked or missing tiles, leaks, sagging areas, or water staining in the loft. As a rough guide, tiled roofs over around 50 years old, and flat roofs past 25 years, may be approaching the end of their working life and worth a closer look.

  • It depends on the materials used and the local weather conditions, so it's hard to give an exact number. What we can say is that regular inspections and proactive maintenance make a real difference, helping your roof reach — and often exceed — its expected lifespan.

"Called Finch Roofing after a storm damaged our chimney flashing. They were out within days, explained everything clearly and the price was fair. Really pleased."
